What have we done to Niagara Falls?

If you have been you will know exactly what I am talking about...

Look at this painting, do you see how beautiful it is. Niagara falls is one of the largest waterfalls in the world, the biggest is Victoria falls, but I think the most water goes over Niagara falls or something like that. The point is that if you have stood there and seen it you will understand it’s majesty. It is amazing so why is it that we decided to desecrate it by surrounding it with this.

These are images of the actual town around it. Are you kidding me????? Maybe it’s nicer than your standard street, but you could have made this anywhere!

If I were made King my first order of business would be to demolish all of this and let nature reclaim what is rightfully hers. Stop for a moment and think how much better the view would be if you had to hike to get to it. Imagine walking through a peaceful forest and hearing the rumble of the falls in the distance letting you know you got close. If you have any remotely heroic or exploratory instincts such a sound would make you start running to see the sight. Imagine how beautiful it would be if you then emerged from the forest and saw the sun and the mist coming off the falls. No instead you would hike past a CHUCKY CHEESE or a WAX MUSEUM.

LOOK AT THE HORROR! Think about how this must repel all the animals, the gods labored to create these beautiful falls for all the creatures and humans have turned it into a bowling alley. It is likely for this reason that they have not revealed themselves to anyone recently… you’re seriously going to tell me you would bother showing yourself to a creature who would create this.

You have to smell car exhaust while you look at the falls…

Do you see how they use angles to hide the skyline… This should be undone so that there is nothing to hide. I mean just think how sad it is that people commute by it everyday, the entire sense of wonder is gone.

And no my plans are not to make it so inaccessible that people in a wheelchair cannot make it there. In fact, if my plan were to be enacted I would happily spend the rest of my days being a Sherpa and help whoever wants to go see it.

QUICK HISTORY LESSON

The man in the picture above is a British explorer named John Hanning Speke. He was on an expedition to find the source of the Nile river. (Lake Victoria if you didn’t know) On his expedition one night his tent was swarmed with many beetles, one of which crawled in his ear and he used a knife to remove it. He ended up making himself deaf in one ear and the wound leaked puss causing him to get very sick and go partially blind. He had to be carried by his African guides to Lake Victoria (they had of course been many times) Anyways, in this picture he is partially blind and deaf, but he could just sense he was in the presence of a majestic lake and wished he could have moved there.

The point is that all of his hardships made him find the lake that much more beautiful, this could be what we get out of Niagara Falls, minus the beatles and loss of senses.

SIDE NOTE: SPEKE DIED IN A ‘HUNTING ACCIDENT’ BUT THE DETAILS ARE SO SKETCHY AND I AM CERTAIN HE COMMITTED SUICIDE

I WILL WRITE ABOUT THIS EVENTUALLY AS THE CASE IS VERY INTERESTING AND I HAVE NEVER FOUND ANYONE ONLINE WHO THINKS THIS WHEN IT IS SO OBVIOUS BUT VICTORIAN SOCIAL CODES FORBADE ANY THOUGHT THAT A MAN LIKE SPEKE WOULD COMMIT SUICIDE.

ENDING

To conclude, think about how sad it is that one of the most beautiful sights/sites of this continent has been turned into a strip mall. Think about how funny it is that as you’re reading this there is someone trying to admire the Falls while their kid complains about wanting to go back to the arcade or whining about getting cotton candy or a candy apple.

I love these things as much as anyone else, I just think we could’ve made that tacky city somewhere else.
